Inside Panonia: Building a World That Remembers

In The Dark World, the environment is more than a route between objectives. Every ruined watchtower, abandoned homestead, and silent forest road serves as a physical record of what happened before the player arrived.

Inside Panonia: Building a World That Remembers

Panonia is a modern place shaped by old conflicts. Its roads and settlements still carry familiar signs of life, yet almost every location has a second story beneath the one you can see.

For The Dark World, the challenge is to make those layers feel connected. A fortified city must suggest the danger beyond its walls. A ruined village should leave questions behind. A forest can be beautiful in daylight and unsettling after sunset without becoming a different place entirely.

The same thinking applies to our characters and factions. No one holds a complete record of history. What one group remembers as survival, another may remember as betrayal.

Our goal is a world that invites investigation as much as exploration. Not every answer will be waiting in the next objective marker. Some will be hidden in what a place has been trying to forget.
